Prom Night
It was prom night on Friday. Laura came over and did Katelyn's hair. Didn't it turn out great? Here she is with Erin before they left. Apparently, blue was the dress color this year. She said a lot of the girls wore blue. Nick came and picked her up for supper. They went to Carrabba's. She enjoyed a great supper of Chicken Marsala. After that, they headed to the museum where the prom was held. Katelyn wore flip flops under her dress because last year, she ended up with horrible blisters. Nobody could tell that she had flip flops on. When the prom ended, everybody headed over to the bowling alley for some midnight games. She even bowled without the bumpers! That's a big step for her. It was a busy night but they all had fun.

Crunchy Beef Bake
Here's a recipe I tried last night. I thought it was pretty good and it's got ingredients that are mostly in the cupboard.
1 1b. ground beef, browned and drained 3/4 cup shredded cheese
2 c. corkscrew, macaroni, cooked 1/4 to 1/3 c. diced green pepper (I omitted)
1 can cr. of mushroom soup 3/4 tsp. seasoned salt
14 1/2 oz. diced tomatoes 1 can french fried onion
Preheat oven to 350. Add to cooked meat the macaroni and other ingredients (except the onions)
Then gently mix in the french fried onions. Cover casserole dish and bake at 350 for 35 minutes. Uncover and bake an additional 10 minutes. Additional fr. fried onions may be added the last 10 minutes as a topping. Enjoy

Signs of Summer
What a beautiful day! I did laundry and decided that I could hang it out on the line. I love the smell of freshly dried clothes that have been outside. Then I noticed the "lovely" yellow flowers growing in my yard. Shaelyn thinks they are the most gorgeous flowers around. I tend to get a few bouquets of them throughout the summer. That's alright - it's a sign of love from your kids when they pick them for you. Thinking of these things made me realize - Yes I believe summer is actually on its way. I think we deserve it, we've waited a long time this year!

My dull life
I know, I know, I haven't written anything lately. But really there hasn't been much of anything special going on in my life. It's just been the typical days after spring break. But today I headed out to Costco and Gordon Foods with a friend. We are trying to plan Katelyn and Erin's open house. (which for those of you who don't know is May 19) We were trying to plan the menu and compare prices. This kind of thing puts me somewhat into "panic" mode. We've started buying pop and water which has been on sale. We'll see how this all goes - I may have to look to other experts (Mari) who have been through this before! Aaaaagh!
On a side note - for those of you who watch American Idol - last night I believe I heard shouts of joy going up throughout all of the country. It was the night to say goodbye to Sandjaya!!! Now if we could only get rid of Melinda - boy I bet that would give her a "true" surprised look on her face if she got the "boot"!

I'm a Big Kid
We were scheduled for nursery at church last night. I started to get Shaelyn ready. I wanted to pull her bangs back but she didn't want me to. I explained that it wouldn't get in her eyes when she was playing then. Her response was, " I'm not going to be playing. I'm a big kid and not a baby. I will just be sitting there, watching the babies. I might play just a -little- bit." So we just pulled her hair back a 'little' bit. Oh, and yes, I think she did more than just a 'little' bit of playing.

Frankenmuth
As you probably know, we went to Frankenmuth for a few days last week for Spring break. Or I think I should call it WINTER break due to the snow we encountered and if you're looking outside - STILL encountering today!!! One of the stores we went to was Bronners - the Christmas store. Shaelyn thought it was a pretty neat store with all the Santas and baby Jesus' around. We also did a little shopping at the Birch Run outlet stores. On Friday, we went to Zehnders for chicken supper. It was really good although I think the prices have gone up tremendously. I don't think we'll be taking the whole family there again for a LONG time. It was a nice little get away for a few days, until we had to come home during some snow. But oh well, it was probably easier for us to return than the people who came back from Florida!

It's Easter time
When we returned Saturday from our "mini" vacation (I'll post on that later), we decided to do our Easter activities. We told Shaelyn that the Easter bunny was coming so she had to go to her room (so we could hide the eggs inside the house - thanks to the snow outside). She wasn't quite sure about that so Chelsea told her that she saw the bunny coming up the driveway and she wasn't allowed to see him or he wouldn't hide the eggs. So she went to her bedroom while we rang the doorbell and pretended that the bunny was here. She told us later that she heard him down the hallway but he is just pretend. She went around the house and found all of her candy and eggs. Later, we decided to color our eggs. We had fun making a few different colored ones. Here's the girls with some of their finished ones. Now, I've got to use them up - anybody up for some egg salad sandwiches?

Another Shaelynism
We were coming home from the birthday party Friday night when Shaelyn starts singing a Donut Man song, "God is 3 in 1, 3 in 1" Katelyn asked her if she knew what that meant. She replied that there is like 3 parts to God. So Katelyn asked her if she knew what those 3 parts were. She answered, "God and Jesus" and then got stuck on the third. Katelyn told her the last one was the Holy Spirit. Then she proceeds to asks her if she knew what the Holy Spirit looked like. And just as the whole family is starting to get so proud that our child is so doctrinally developed she replies, " a horse or a unicorn" What do you mean. "Well in the movie, Spirit, he is horse"(For any of you who don't know - there was a movie about a wild horse out west and his name was Spirit) So we understood where she got this from but Katelyn explained to her that probably we think of the Holy Spirit as a dove because that was how God descended when Jesus was baptized. So hopefully she understands this a little bit and won't go around telling people that God is a horse.
